  3. Camp Supervisor Job Description

    The camp supervisor will be responsible for all camp operations including, but not limited to supervision of staff, daily attendance, administrative duties, planning and organizing daily activities and themes or special event days.

    Commitment

    Day camp runs for 7 weeks. Counselor orientation will be held June 7th, 8th, and 9th. The 8th will be the only evening commitment for the summer as we will be having parent-camper orientation. The first day of camp is June 12th and runs through July 28th . Supervisors work from 8:00am to 3:00pm daily. Camp is a short commitment; therefore, we do not allow time off for vacations and expect all other appointments or activities be done outside of camp hours. Daily attendance is required. 

    Other Commitments

    In the off season: Supervisors run interviews for camp staff. Create groups based on friendship requests and number of participants. Supervisors work together to plan counselor orientation and themes for camp season.

    Education and Experience

    • This position requires a person of at least 21 years of age with a high school degree or its equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred. Degree preferably in education, recreation, or a related field.
    •  Experience working with children in a camp or recreation environment is preferred.

    Immediate Supervisor

    Camp supervisors report directly to the camp director. If matters are unable to be addressed with camp director, consult the Recreation Director.

    Essential Functions

    • The Camp Supervisor will assist in overseeing the daily operations at camp.
    • Assist with hiring, training, and supervision of camp counselors. Ability to coach and mentor staff.
    • Always ensure the safety of campers and report all accidents/incidents to Camp Director. Administer first aid as needed.
    • Greets participants and parents/guardians upon arriving and departing each camp day.
    • Responsible for the leadership and supervision of camp staff and participants.
    • Responsible for weekly preparation of arts and crafts, staff dismissals, newsletters, preparing for performers, camp supply requests, and general day to day running of camp.
    • Required to maintain good communication with camp staff, campers, parents/guardians of participants, and aquatic department staff.
    • Required to maintain good communication with parents/caregivers of campers and keep them informed of activities and child’s progress.
    • Responsible for discipline of campers and communicating incidents to parents.
    • Responsible for completing and administering one mid-summer evaluation and one end-of the summer evaluation for each camp staff.
    • Required to address all staff behavior issues, and consult with camp director,
    • Ability to create and implement a curriculum and/or activity plan.
    • Ability to solve problems as they arise.
    • Efficient time management skills.
    • Required to adhere and enforce the general rules and policies of Vernon Township.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Must be dependable, energetic, and have a positive attitude.

    Cognitive Considerations

    •  Ability to work, supervises, and communicates with persons of all ages and backgrounds.
    • Considerable knowledge in Microsoft Office.
    • Must be able to read, write, and organize materials.
    • Must be able to supervise others; and must have the ability to identify (and if possible, correct) hazardous situations.

    Physiological/Environmental Considerations

    Staff members will be required to lift, turn, and carry 25 pounds and walk at least 10 feet.

    Staff may be required to work outside for long periods of time as well as in various working conditions including hot temperatures.
