The day camp counselor in training (CIT) is a volunteer position working directly under the supervision of the camp supervisors and/or the Township Recreation Director. The CIT is responsible for a variety of duties including maintaining good communication with supervisors, observing and interacting with camp groups and counselors, and assisting in the preparation of daily materials for activities.
Commitment
Day camp runs for 7 weeks. Counselor orientation will be held June 7th, 8th, and 9th. The 8th will be the only evening commitment for the summer as we will be having parent-camper orientation. The first day of camp is June 12th and runs through July 28th. Counselors work from 8:30am to about 2:30pm daily. CIT are a volunteer position therefore may come and go as they choose. Although we would like to have CIT’s at camp as much as they possibly can.
Qualifications
Must want to gain experience working with children ages 4-7 and strive to feel comfortable leading group activities. Must be able to accept guidance from onsite supervisors.
Immediate Supervisor
CIT reports directly to the onsite camp supervisor. If matters are unable to be addressed with camp supervisors, consult the Recreation Director.
Essential Functions
Physiological/Environmental Considerations
Staff members will be required to lift, turn, and carry 25 pounds and walk at least 10 feet.
Staff may be required to work outside for long periods of time as well as in various working conditions including hot temperatures.
Cognitive Considerations
Must have the ability to read, write, and organize materials. Must be able to supervise campers and have the ability to identify (and if possible, correct) hazardous situations.
