Domestic Violence & the Danger of Firearms Event
Monday, August 22, 2022
In the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are seeing rising rates of gun violence in Lake County that corresponds with a 500% increase in firearm sales since March 2020. All too often, because of easy accessibility of firearms and a lack of regulations that they be used and stored safely, victims of domestic violence face greater risk.
Please join us in welcoming Lake County State's Assistant State's Attorney, Lauren Callinan and A Safe Place's Director of Development, Demaris Lorta to Vernon Township's next Firearm Safety Event. They will discuss the tools available to domestic violence victims and the people who care about them that can be used to decrease the risk of a firearm being used in a domestic violence incident. We will learn about the difference between Orders of Protection and Firearm Restraining Orders, about the support services available in Lake County and much more.
