Vernon Township Launches Ruth Bader Ginsburg Scholarship Program

Buffalo Grove— October 26, 2022 — To honor the memory and legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Vernon Township Board of Trustees has created a scholarship program. The scholarships will provide funds to two Vernon Township residents who are senior high school students, that identify as female, gender fluid, transgender and non-binary. They must have expressed and demonstrated an interest in emulating the career of Justice Ginsburg through education in government, public service, or advocacy.

Justice Ginsburg was famous for her unstinting support for gender and racial equality in all aspects of life, as well as her abilities and energy in continuously working to overcome prejudice and bias. The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial Scholarship will award $2,500 each to two students living in Vernon Township and who attend either Vernon Hills High School or Stevenson High School.

The scholarship application and an information page describing the rules and criteria required by the scholarship program are available on the Vernon Township website at https://vernontownship.com/271/Ruth-Bader-Ginsburg-Memorial-Scholarship. Completed applications and required documents are due by December 31, 2022

A panel of judges has been chosen to review the applications and conduct finalist interviews. They will make recommendations to the Township Board, which will announce the winning scholars in April 2023.
