  3. Camp Counselor Job Description

    The day camp counselor is a part time position, working directly under the supervision of the camp supervisors and/or the Township Recreation Director. The camp counselor is responsible for a variety of duties including maintaining good communication with parents, supervision of a camp group, and assisting in the preparation of daily materials for activities.

    Commitment

    Day camp runs for 7 weeks. Counselor orientation will be held June 8th, 9th, and 10th. The 9th will be the only evening commitment for the summer as we will be having parent-camper orientation. The first day of camp is June 13th and runs through July 29th. Counselors work from 8:30am to about 2:30pm daily. Camp is a short commitment; therefore, we do not allow time off for vacations and expect all other appointments or activities be done outside of camp hours. Daily attendance is required. 

    Essential Functions

    • Always ensure the safety of campers and report all accidents to supervisors.
    • Responsible for the direct leadership of a group of up to 8 children.
    • Responsible for leading a group through planned daily activities including: Arts and crafts, small group activities, large group activities, swimming, and lunch.
    • Required to maintain good communication with parents/caregivers of campers and keep them informed of activities and child’s progress.
    • Responsible for setup and cleanup of camp as required by camp supervisors.
    • Required to adhere to general rules and policies of Vernon Township.
